THANKS SO MUCH. Do you know how to level the boat so i can get an accurate measurement from the transom to the black line that my boat is supposed to have? My rigging is out and the boat has weather helm. Thanks
In just a few words you have just made all the hours we have spent posting worthwhile.
Thank you
My boat has massive weather helm if I sail it tipped over. You need to keep the boat upright. To start with, I used to sail with the gunnel in the water. "Flat is fast". It is also easier to sail.
Also, my boat was getting seriously out of shape because the rudder was the 1960's shape that didnt go vertical. If yours sticks out the back at 45 degrees, it needs to be fixed.
The boat also changes depending on how far forward or back you sit. Shuffling along the side can actually change how much weather helm you have.
Are your fairleads on the deck next to the shrouds? Moving them in makes the boat point a lot better and makes the front sail give more push.
Mr Jones, Mr Frith and Mr Crichton all say you can sail this boat without a rudder. Try letting out one sail or the other a bit and see what it does to handling.
Have you got tell tales on your sails?
Is your boat a mk2 or a mk3?
Thank you. You have made my day
